Masters Thesis, Binghamton University, NY
This research compares the geometric quality of 3D models produced using professional-grade UAV lidar (DJI Matrice 350 RTK + Zenmuse L2) with those generated from low-cost sub-250 g UAV photogrammetry (SfM) and handheld lidar. These alternatives are not only cost-effective but also lightweight, safer for urban use, and often exempt from strict regulations. The goal is to validate practical, affordable solutions for high-quality urban 3D modeling and support the adoption of digital twin technologies in urban analysis.
Position: Graduate Researcher
Date: August 2025 to present
Main responsibilities:
Plan and execute UAV flight missions using DJI M350 + L2 (Lidar), DJI Neo (SfM), and mobile laser scanning with the Lixel KityK1 handheld lidar scanner to survey complex campus infrastructure
Survey Ground Control Points (GCPs) with Emlid reach RS2/RS3 RTK GNSS receivers for model optimization.
Process lidar and photogrammetric datasets with DJI Terra, LixelStudio, and Pix4Dmapper to generate orthophotos and 3D point clouds/meshes
Compute Cloud-to-Cloud (C2C) distance and Multiscale Model-to-Model Cloud Comparison (M3C2) in CloudCompare to determine geometric accuracy.
Present results to departmental thesis committee members
Campus Tree Mapping, Binghamton University GIS Core Facility Lab, NY
This project, led by the GIS Core Facility Lab in collaboration with Binghamton University Facilities Management, aims to identify and map trees within the academic enclave (“The Brain”) on campus. The project also seeks to develop a standardized workflow for future tree-mapping initiatives and to contribute the resulting data to OpenStreetMap.
Position: Graduate Student Assistant
Date: December 2025 to January 2026
Main responsibilities:
Executed two (2) UAV lidar scans and generated Orthoimages, 3D point clouds, meshes, and Gaussian Splats to help map over 750 trees
Performed QA/QC on datasets and standardized data to OpenStreetMap (OSM) tagging standards for smooth OSM publishing
Developed and documented workflow and metadata to ensure project continuity and data integrity
Setup GIS workstation, Installed, updated, and troubleshot GIS and other software
Strategic Sector Cooperation, City of Aarhus, Denmark, and City of Tema, Ghana
Funded by DANIDA, this Strategic Sector Cooperation project aimed to minimize water revenue loss and upgrade wastewater infrastructure in Tema. Key partners include Aarhus Municipality, Aarhus Vand, Tema Metropolitan Assembly, and Ghana Water Company Limited. My team led the digitization of the local sewerage network.
Position: Team member, GIS and data officer
Date: February 2020 to August 2024
Main responsibilities:
Trained and supervised 16 officers to map sewer infrastructure; performed QA/QC on GIS data before publishing on the web for visualization and sharing with stakeholders
Presented results to international and local stakeholders, emphasizing interdisciplinary collaboration
Collaborated with fellow professionals, both local and international, to prepare a climate adaptation and wastewater management plan for the Tema Metropolitan area
Street Naming & Property Addressing, Tema, Ghana
The goal of this Government of Ghana program was to identify and name all streets and number the properties along them. Metropolises/municipalities/districts were responsible for undertaking the exercise within their jurisdiction. My team was tasked to digitize streets and property boundaries from orthophotos to create a GIS database.
Position: Team member, GIS and data officer
Date: June 2014 to August 2024
Main responsibilities:
Digitized over 20,000 property boundaries and 1,200 street center lines from orthophotos using QGIS and field-validated the data with QFields to develop a functional GIS database
Participated in community meetings and advocacies to integrate local knowledge and cultural values into the project
Prepared and presented the project’s progress activities to executive management, including the mayor and other stakeholders
Collaborated with other members to successfully address within the Tema Metropolis, which helped in city management through easy navigation and tax collection
